There's a reason the kitchen holds such a central place in a home. It's where meals are made, conversations happen, and traditions quietly help to shape the rhythm of daily life. When I set out to create The Foundation Collection, that truth was at the core of everything.
This line of cutting boards was built to be both beautiful and used; not one or the other. I started out making edge grain boards, but it didn't take long before I shifted to end grain. The reasons were clear: end grain boards last longer, are gentler on knife edges, and simply make more sense if you're building something meant to be used with intention. If you're going to invest in a tool for your kitchen, it should be built to go the distance.
A Size for Every Home
The Foundation Collection includes four sizes, and each one was thoughtfully designed to serve a specific purpose. Whether a home has room for the full line or just the right spot for one board, every size was chosen with a broad range of kitchens and needs in mind. No size is an afterthought; each one earns its place.
Patience in Every Step
Every part of the process is done with care and patience. From selecting the right lumber and carefully milling each board, to the prep work before finishing, nothing is rushed. That intentionality carries through to the finish itself, which is where I think this collection really stands apart.
A Finish You Can Feel Good About
The finish I use is completely mineral oil free. I know not everyone has strong feelings about mineral oil, and that's okay. But for me, intention lives in every detail, including what goes on the boards that go into your home.
Each board is first seasoned with Organic Fractionated Coconut Oil. This isn't the same coconut oil you cook with. Fractionated coconut oil goes through a distillation process that removes the long-chain triglycerides which are the fats that would otherwise cause it to go rancid over time. What's left is shelf-stable, food safe, thinner for better wood penetration, and completely free of petroleum. It's a cleaner, smarter choice for something that lives in your kitchen.
After the oil sits overnight, each board is topped with ReDieming Creations Board Butter. This is a 3:1 blend of that same organic fractionated coconut oil and organic beeswax. The beeswax adds a layer of protection and leaves a beautiful matte sheen that lets the natural character of the wood come through.
We offer the Board Butter as its own product so that the same care that goes into finishing each board can continue throughout its life. Reapplying it keeps the wood hydrated and protected, without ever compromising on what's touching your food. We also include 1 free 4oz tin with each board purchased to start off the life of your board with quality.
